Sustainability in the Spotlight: Heuver Wins the Bronze Medal

It’s time to pop the champagne, because Heuver has recently been awarded the Bronze Medal for our sustainability performance! This prestigious recognition was granted by EcoVadis and places our company in the top 35% of all EcoVadis-assessed companies.

EcoVadis is an international platform specializing in sustainability ratings. It evaluates companies based on their performance in areas such as the environment, labor and human rights, ethics, and sustainable procurement.

And as if that weren’t impressive enough, we’ve also secured second place in the ranking of all ING clients in the North-East Netherlands region. But why did we earn this award? Let’s take a look at some of our sustainable initiatives.

Sustainable on the Road

Sustainable transport companies can earn the ‘Sustainable on the Road’ certificate through Profile Heuver. To obtain this certificate, a number of points must be collected—most of which can be earned by maintaining proper tyre pressure. Through regular inspections, balancing, alignment, and tyre replacement, fleets can operate more efficiently while achieving significant CO₂ reductions.

Transport companies that carry out a fleet check with us once per quarter enable us to detect any necessary adjustments in a timely manner. This type of sustainability-focused collaboration qualifies companies for the ‘Sustainable on the Road’ certificate.

At Heuver, we believe it is essential to minimize the ecological footprint of our tyre production and trade. Our processes are designed to be as sustainable as possible from start to finish, with care for our employees and future generations. Our goal is to use tyres as responsibly as possible and to get the most out of them.

Solar Panels

At our headquarters in Hardenberg, we currently have 3,600 solar panels in operation—a record number in the region. This makes the location nearly energy-neutral. During the installation’s inauguration in 2017, the mayor of Hardenberg called it a model example for other businesses.

400.000 kW power

Keeping up with the times today primarily means working energy-neutrally. We had long aspired to power our operations with renewable energy—and solar panels made that possible. We calculated that we would need 400,000 kilowatt-hours of electricity to become fully self-sufficient and adjusted the number of solar panels accordingly.

In addition, we’ve invested in electric forklifts and charging stations, and we use 100% green electricity.

Electric Vehicles: Getting Better Every Day

We all know that electric transport plays a major role in reducing CO₂ emissions. At Heuver, we’re doing our part step by step. We’ve begun introducing electric vehicles for our own employees. At our headquarters, several electric cars are available for staff use. Some of our service locations are also already equipped with electric vehicles.

For example, at the Profile Heuver location in Den Ham, we operate electric company vehicles used to collect parts and tyres. Every little bit helps. In the future, we aim to further expand our fleet of electric and hybrid vehicles.

Charging Stations in Hardenberg and Groningen

Let it charge

Since 2011, we’ve been making it easy for electric drivers to charge their vehicles with us. As mentioned earlier, we’ve installed electric charging stations at several Profile Heuver locations in the northern and eastern parts of the Netherlands. At these branches, you can conveniently charge your electric car.

We aim to expand this service even further in the future.

LED Lighting in Our Branches

An Investment in the Environment—and in Heuver

As part of climate goals, businesses have been required (in phases) to switch to LED lighting since July 1, 2020. This is one of the measures under the EED (European Energy Efficiency Directive), aimed at further reducing CO₂ emissions. In that regard, we’re right on track.

At all our locations, we have already replaced traditional fluorescent lighting with LED. We fully support this step—LED lighting is significantly more energy-efficient than incandescent bulbs and has a much longer lifespan. So in addition to being an investment in the environment, it’s also a smart investment in our own organization.
